Spin Instructor Spotlight – Meet Katya!

October 8, 2024

Tribal’s latest Instructor Spotlight focuses on Katya! She is an absolute ray of sunshine and if you haven’t been fortunate enough to meet her, let us tell you a bit about her! Katya’s Rhythm & Sculpt class is a high-energy, full-body workout that combines the cardio intensity of indoor cycling with strength and core exercises integrated throughout.

We interviewed Katya to let her tell you all a little more about herself!

1. What inspired you to become a spin instructor, and how long have you been teaching? I came for a spin class as a part of the collaboration between Hot Pod Yoga where I was practicing at that moment and Tribal and fell in love with the studio, lighting, music. The dream of working at Tribal as a spin coach was born. I work this literal dream of job for slightly under a year now.

2. If you could describe your teaching style in three words, what would they be? Energetic, authentic, inclusive

3. What’s your go-to song or artist to get riders pumped up during a challenging climb? My playlists are ever changing, we get through climbs with my class by adding a layers of fun routines – the hill is done before you know it!

4. Outside of spinning, what other fitness activities do you enjoy? I enjoy more sports than I can do – from practicing handstands, hot yoga, outdoor running and as of lately I got qualified as a Pilates teacher and absolutely obsessed with it! My life motto is to keep moving, everything that brings you joy – go for it!

5. What’s the most valuable piece of advice you’d give to someone new to spin classes? Don’t be afraid of it – spinning is absolutely for everyone, come and have fun with us! As teachers we work so hard to make it safe, fun and exciting space for our clients, come and experience it!

6. If you could lead a spin class anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? I love Tribal and have so many plans for the space I’d love to create for riders on my classes here, it does not really depend on any geo location, I am very happy surrounded by my local community. I’d probably fancy to have a ride with Kristina Girod though- she is my inspiration and teacher I look up to.

7. What’s your favourite post-workout snack or meal? I try to stay balanced with my meals on most days as I am very connected to my body and feel changes in energy levels straight away when the nutrition is off; but going for breakfast to local restaurants in Jesmond with friends who came for a spin is becoming a firm fave tradition!

8. Can you share a funny or memorable moment you’ve experienced during a spin class? The most memorable moment for me has to be a Pride Ride with my Tribal colleague and friend Tom. You should see him doing the routines on “I am looking for a man in finance” song – you’d know he believes the song is about him!
